Tyler + Whitney
April 25th, 2009I had the pleasure of shooting engagement sessions for someone I’ve known for quite some time. Whitney is a friend of my sisters… I think I remember babysitting her at one point! It’s so weird, I get older and so does everyone else. Tyler is a wonderful man and he is heading to desert in September to serve our great country… Thanks bro, you’re a bigger man than I’ll ever be. I had a great time with both of you!!!

April 21st, 2009Local Lens Rental in Wichita, Kansas
April 16th, 2009Yes, that’s right… I’ve been renting lenses from Borrow Lenses online for quite sometime and now I can pick them up locally in Wichita! Matt Carr, opened his doors for biz last October and for all of us professionals and non-professionals, that’s a mighty good thing! If you’ve been wanting to try out that $2,000 lens but don’t wanna drop the coin visit Matt, he probably has it on his shelf for the fraction of the cost… the only kicker, you have to give it back! Check him out at MJ Lens Rental and go shoot with top notch glass for next to nothing!!!
Getting Back to Shooting
April 15th, 2009Sometimes I have to remind myself why I got into photography in the first place. Personally I hate the business side of my business but I have to feed my family… and, p.s., we’re adding another eating, screaming, pooping addition in just about 9 weeks!!!! Scary! Yesterday I took a stroll around our house, spring time is so gorgeous anyway, and took some shots of whatever I saw fit. It’s the darndest thing, shooting for myself, no pressure, no one expecting anything, it feels right! I really just want to remind all of you who are “Professionally” shooting, whatever that means anymore, to shoot, shoot, shoot! And every now and again bust out your old film cameras, dust them off and snap 24 frames to remind you that you are actually a photographer and not a digital robot!!!!

April 11th, 2009Lighting Setup #2
April 7th, 2009Here’s a simple light setup I used for a shot during our shoot yesterday. Depending on the shoot I’ll use strobes or hot lights. In this situation I chose to use my hot lights so I could control my Depth of Field by keeping it super shallow. I used my Photoflex Starlight kit which is the first set of lights I bought 4 years ago. I quickly found that you can’t use these in very many situations for still photography but they worked great here. To the models right you’ll see a nice soft blue light seperating him from the background. That is the ambient light coming from outside, it really turned out great. My Photoflex kit is Tungsten balanced so the daylight really pops.
Indoor, Minimal Lighting, Great Stuff!
April 6th, 2009I did a shoot for a local magazine today, I had a great time. The images you see below WILL NOT make it into the magazine, they’re wayyyy too conservative for that. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just their style. Anyway, got some great stuff and worked with some very talented models!!!
I’ve been playing around with this editing style for quite sometime… I’m waiting for someone to use it in a publication. It prints so well and has a great editorial look. I’d love to see it in a mag… Maybe I need to work with some national magazines before that will happen, we’ll see!
Killer Portrait Session! Thanks Janet!
March 30th, 2009So a few weeks ago Janet and I soared out to uncharted territories to find new locations to shoot Senior photos. I can’t help but think that mine look just like everyone else in Wichita. I was perusing a site the other day of a local photographer and saw my image, same location, same crop, same chair… everything but the subject. I’m not saying that the photographer has even seen my image but it happens all the time. They probably look at my site and say, “Hey, he ripped off my photo”… but don’t flatter yourself, I try and keep my head level by saying every photographer in Wichita is equally creative. Anywho, found some great spots and I’m not done. I have a whole new outlook on outdoor portraits now. Can’t wait for my next session to explore some more!
